Frequently Asked Question's
Will physical therapy help me?
Physical therapy is a great option for most people because of its versatility. Whether you are dealing with a mild ankle sprain, complex musculoskeletal disorder, or suffering from an auto accident physical therapy can be a big help.
Physical therapy is considered a conservative treatment method that uses non-invasive treatments. Working with a physical therapist can help you manage, prevent, and heal many injuries and disabilities.
Do you need a prescription for physical therapy in Michigan?
No, you do not need a prescription to start physical therapy in Michigan.
Michigan is a direct access state, which means anyone has the right to visit a licensed physical therapist to get an evaluation and start treatment. These direct access laws were implemented to help reduce the delay in care from the time of your injury.
Direct access laws allow anyone to receive treatment from a physical therapist for up to 21 days or 10 visits (whichever comes first) before they are required to get a referral from a physician.
The main benefit of getting a prescription for physical therapy is that it will allow for your insurance to cover the costs. Another good thing about visiting your doctor to get a prescription for therapy is that it helps cultivate a teamwork type of environment between you, your doctor, and your physical therapist.
What can I expect on my first visit?
First-time patients can expect to receive a comprehensive evaluation for their current condition and a custom treatment plan to begin that same visit. An evaluation typically lasts 60-90 minutes, we enjoy taking the time to get to know our new patients, providing the most accurate diagnosis, and setting them up for great success.
A comprehensive evaluation can include surveying current symptoms, past medical history, and focused assessments to systems throughout the body such as:
- Muscles and Tendons
- Spine
- Ligaments, Cartilage, and Joint Capsules
- Circulatory System
- Nervous System
We hope that all our new patients leave their first appointment with great peace of mind. Confident that your therapist will do what is best for your recovery and comfortable with appointment scheduling, insurance benefits, and communication with primary doctors, employers, and coaches
