Selective Functional Movement Assessment

SFMA is a diagnostic tool used to assess specific movement patterns to identify musculoskeletal dysfunctions in individuals suffering from pain. This assessment allows us to be more pattern-specific on how people move in relation to their diagnosis and body structure.

At Balanced Physical Therapy, we strive to look at our patients through a whole-body approach not only to improve their pain, but to change functional movement patterns to protect you from further injury.

Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is a type of manual therapy practice used to decrease tension and restrictions between the different layers of the musculoskeletal system. The instruments are designed to target specific areas of the body to improve tissue flexibility and blood flow and stimulate nerve endings to decrease pain.

Dry Needling Treatments

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a safe and effective treatment technique to alleviate pain
and muscular restriction. This method uses a thin needle inserted into the affected muscles, tendons, ligaments or bones to improve recovery time, functional mobility, pain, and muscular/myofascial tension.

Research shows dry needling can help a multitude of injuries including but not limited to tendonitis, low back pain, neck pain, ligament sprains, muscle and tendon strains, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, golfer’s and tennis elbow, and muscular tightness.

Pain Management

Our physical therapists specialize in evaluating and treating chronic and acute pain for all ages, sexes, and activity levels. Pain therapies center around treating the source of your pain and working to improve movement and strength deficits.

Pain management treatments can include any combination of manual therapies, therapeutic modalities, and exercise backed by evidence-based research. Additionally, patients enjoy working individually with their therapist and getting valuable education related to pain symptoms and triggers for work, home, and other future activities throughout each session.
